Fast manipulation of Bose–Einstein condensates with an atom chip

Prof. Ernst M. Rasel and dr. Naceur Gaaloul from Quantum Sensing Group at Institut für Quantenoptik (Leibniz Universität Hannover) have in a collaboration with researchers from France and USA published a paper in New Journal of Physics, titled Fast manipulation of Bose–Einstein condensates with an atom chip. The article appeared in a special issue Focus on Shortcuts to Adiabaticity.

The authors proposed a fast and controlled transport of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) over large distances of several millimeters, i.e. of the order of 1000 times the size of the BEC. This optimised atom chip preparation is relevant to metrology with cold atoms since it could dramatically reduce experimental duty cycles.

Congratulations!
